Abd al-Basit al-Kuwaiti (25 March 1970-20 October 2008) was a member of al-Qaeda.
Biography[]
Abd al-Basit al-Kuwaiti was born on 25 March 1970 in Jaber Al Ali, Kuwait, 10 miles south of Kuwait City. He moved to Afghanistan in 1986 to fight alongside the Mujahideen against the Soviet Union during the Soviet-Afghan War, and took on the name "al-Kuwaiti". al-Kuwaiti later fought against the Northern Alliance in the Afghan Civil War, and al-Kuwaiti went into hiding following the United States and United Kingdom invasion of Iraq in 2003. al-Kuwaiti was wounded in the US Army assault on Baghdad by a grenade, but he managed to escape. On 20 October 2008, al-Kuwaiti was killed in Mosul by the Iraqi Army.
