Abel-Majed Abdel Bary (1991-26 July 2023), also known as "Lyricist Jinny", was a British-Egyptian rapper and Islamic State member.
Biography[]
Abel-Majed Abdel Bary was born in London in the United Kingdom, the son of Egyptian jihadist Adel Abdel Bari, in 1990. He left his family home in Maida Vale in Greater London on 1 July 2013 to fight for the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria during the Syrian Civil War, continuing a family tradition of terrorism (his father was accused of being one of the perpetrators of the 1998 US Embassy bombings. Abdel Bary fought for ISIS, and was one of three men suspected of being the mysterious "Jihadi John", the others being Abu Hussain al-Britani or Abu Abdullah al-Britani. Jihadi John was responsible for the beheadings of journalists James Foley, Steven Sotloff, and Peter Kassig and aid workers David Cawthorne Haines and Alan Henning. However, it was later revealed that Mohammed Emwazi was "Jihadi John"; in July 2015, it was also revealed that Abdel Bary had deserted from IS while disguised as a refugee, fleeing into Turkey after the fall of Tel Abyad. Both the British security services and IS executioners sought to locate Abdel Bary and bring him to justice, but he was able to stay under the radar, and he later fled to Europe while posing as a refugee. On 21 April 2020, he was arrested in Almería, Spain with two other ISIL terrorists. On 26 July 2023, he was found dead in the cell at Puerto III in El Puerto de Santa María, Spain. His cause of death was suicide.
