Abdul Haq Wasiq

Abdul Haq Wasiq (1971-) was Deputy Minister of Intelligence of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan and a leader of the Taliban.

Biography[]

Abdul Haq Wasiq was born in Ghazni, Afghanistan in 1971, and he developed ties to both al-Qaeda and the Taliban. Under the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, he served as Deputy Minister of Intelligence, and he used a radio to communicate with the intelligence chief. He was captured in 2001 and sent to Guantanamo Bay in 2002, only to be traded for US Army soldier Bowe Bergdahl in a 31 May 2014 prisoner exchange along with four other Taliban leaders.
