Agim Ceku

Agim Ceku (born 29 October 1960) was Prime Minister of Kosovo from 10 March 2006 to 9 January 2008, succeeding Bajram Kosumi and preceding Hashim Thaci.

Biography[]

Agim Ceku was born on 29 October 1960 in Cuska, SFR Yugoslavia, and he attended military school in Belgrade. At the start of the Croatian War of Independence, Ceku served with the Croatian National Guard after defecting from the Yugoslav People's Army, and in 1999 his request to join the Kosovo Liberation Army by Croatia was accepted. In May 1999, Ceku became the KLA Chief-of-Staff during the Kosovo War with Serbia, and he oversaw the transition of the KLA from a guerrilla group to the armed forces of Kosovo. However, he secretly gave support to the Macedonian UCK during their struggle against the government of Macedonia in the Macedonia War of 2001. From 10 March 2006 to 9 January 2008, Ceku served as Prime Minister of Kosovo, and he stepped down in January 2008. Ceku was charged with war crimes but was acquitted, and he joined the Social Democratic Party of Kosovo after leaving office.
