Al-Hasakah Governorate

al-Hasakah Governorate is a governorate in northeastern Syria, noted for its fertile lands, plentiful water, picturesque nature, and its archaeological sites. Nearly half of Syria's oil was extracted from al-Hasakah before the Syrian Civil War broke out in 2011, and the province was divided between the Syrian Arab Army, the neutral YPG/Syrian Democratic Forces/Syriac Military Council, and the extremist Islamic State, with the latter fighting against the SAA and the SDF coalition. In 2011, the province had a population of 1,512,000 people.
