The Alabama Democratic Party is the affiliate of the Democratic Party in the US state of Alabama. From 1874 to 1987, the Democrats had an uninterrupted rule over the state as governors, as the party was once dominated by white southern conservatives. However, the realignment of the 1960s and the end of the Solid South during the 1980s led to many conservative whites switching party affiliations to the Alabama Republican Party, and Alabama did not vote for a Democrat after 1976. In 2010, for the first time in 136 years, the Democrats lost control of the state legislature, and they also became the minor party in statewide offices and in the state's legation to the US Congress.
