Albanians

A crowd of Albanians at a rally

Albanians are an ethnic group that live in Albania, Kosovo, Turkey, and other parts of the Balkans. There are 12,200,000 Albanians worldwide, with as many as 5,000,000 living in Turkey, 2,810,000 living in Albania, 1,616,869 living in Kosovo, 800,000 living in Italy, 600,000 living in Greece, 509,083 living in Macedonia, 300,000 living in Italy, 200,000 living in Switzerland, and several more in other countries. Their diaspora was caused by many factors, with the Kosovo War and ethnic cleansing leading to many fleeing persecution by the Serbs, while they also moved to escape Enver Hoxha's dictatorship. In Albania, 56.70% of the population is Muslim (mostly nondenominational), 10.03% Catholic, 6.75% Orthodox Christian, 2.09% Bektashi Sufi, .14% other Christian, and 15.79% atheist.
