Albrecht von Richthofen

Albrecht von Richthofen (13 November 1859-8 March 1920) was a Major in the Imperial German Army and the father of Manfred and Lothar von Richthofen, two German fighter aces during World War I.

Biography[]

Albrecht von Richthofen was born in Breslau, Silesia, Prussia in 1859 to an aristocratic family, and he married Kunigunde von Schickfuss und Neudorff. He became a Kavallerieoffizer and Major in the Imperial German Army, and he had his sons Manfred and Lothar von Richthofen follow in his steps as military officers. Manfred ("the Red Baron") was killed in action in 1918, while Lothar died in a flying accident in 1922. Albrecht died at Schweidnitz in 1920.
