Alfred Fletcher (20 January 1875-20 September 1959) was a leader of the Baltic Landeswehr during the Estonian War of Independence.
Biography[]
Alfred Fletcher was born on 20 January 1875 in Oels, Silesia, German Empire. He joined the Imperial German Army on 22 March 1893 and served in the Boxer Rebellion in 1900, and he commanded a replacement division battalion during World War I, rising to command a regiment. From 1 February to 25 July 1919, he commanded the Baltic Landeswehr Freikorps during the Estonian War of Independence following the Russian Revolution. He briefly served as governor of Riga, and in 1919 he was decisively defeated at the Battle of Cesis by Estonia. After the defeat in the Latvian War of Independence, Fletcher joined the conservative German National People's Party, and he died in 1959 in West Germany in Herzogenaurach, Bavaria.
