Alsace-Lorraine

Alsace-Lorraine is a historical region of France, located on the eastern borders with Belgium, Lxuembourg, Germany, and Switzerland. The region has major cities at Metz, Strasbourg, and Colmar, and it is home to a mixture of French and German cultures; the region is home to the Lorrain dialect of French and the Lorraine Franconian dialect of German. From 1871 to 1918, the region was ruled by Germany, but it was reconquered by France after World War I; today, Alsace and Lorraine are parts of France.
