Amos Beck

Amos Beck was a member of the state House of Representatives of South Carolina.

Biography[]

Amos Beck was born in South Carolina into slavery, and he was freed at the end of the American Civil War. In 1871, Beck became a member of the South Carolina House of Representatives under Lieutenant-Governor Silas Lynch, and he was known to drink while the house was in session. He drank from a flask of whiskey that he hid under his book, contributing to the disorder in the house.
