Antoine d'Aumont de Rochebaron

Antoine d'Aumont de Rochebaron (1601-11 January 1669) was a Marshal of France under King Louis XIV of France.

Biography[]

Antoine d'Aumont de Rochebaron was raised as an honorary child of King Louis XIII of France, and he fought against the 1628 Huguenot rebellion. In 1632, he was promoted to Captain of the Guards, and he was appointed Governor of Boulogne in 1636. A year later, he defeated the Spanish at Mont Hulin during the Franco-Spanish War, and he distinguished himself as a Lieutenant-General during the 1640s. After defeating the Spanish at Rethel in 1650, he was made a Marshal of France, and he became Governor of Paris in 1662. In 1667, he accompanied King Louis XIV of France to Flanders during the War of Devolution, and he died in Paris of apoplexy in 1669.
