Antoku (22 December 1178 – 25 April 1185) was the sacred Emperor of Japan from 1180 to 1185. When the young Emperor Takakura died in 1180, Antoku was installed as the infant emperor and put under the regency of the Taira clan. He was a puppet and was very powerless, and during the Battle of Dan-no-Ura in 1185, a member of the Taira grabbed him and jumped into the sea, drowning both of them, so that he would not be captured by the Minamoto. With him, he lost his sword, jewel, and mirror which were then found later.
