Argonaute (1798)

Argonaute was a 74-gun ship of the line of the French Navy that was launched on 22 December 1798. Admiral Louis Thomas Villaret de Joyeuse commanded the Argonaute during the 1802 expedition to Saint-Domingue in the Caribbean, and Jacques Epron-Desjardins served as commander of the Argonaute at the 1805 Battle of Trafalgar. The ship was heavily damaged, but it managed to escape to Cadiz. In December 1806, the French exchanged Argonaute for a Spanish ship, but Argonaute was never recommissioned.
