The Armenian Communist Party (HKK) is a communist political party in Armenia, founded in 1920 during the Russian Revolution. The HKK ruled the Armenian SSR of the Soviet Union as a branch of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU), but it would survive the fall of the USSR in 1991 and remain to be a party. The party is staunchly pro-Russian, and the party idolizes the former Armenian SSR as well as Bolshevik revolutionary Stepan Shaumian, the "Caucasian Lenin". In 1999, the party stated that its goals were to transform Armenia into a parliamentary republic, to reject Western-style market forums, to embrace a socialist mixed economy, embrace close ties with Russia, recognize Nagorno-Karabakh as an independent nation, and to join the Russia-Belarus economic union. The party had around 18,000 members in 2016, with many of them being nostalgic, old people.
