The Battle of Chinchorro (September 1719) occurred when the crew of the pirate brig Jackdaw, commanded by Edward Kenway, assaulted the Spanish Navy fort of Chinchorro, which was commanded by Julian de Rey. The pirates bombarded the fort with mortar fire and cannon barrages, and the pirates succeeded in storming the fort's defenses after destroying its outer walls. The pirates killed the officers leading the fort's defense, and Kenway entered the war room and killed the fort's commander, Julian de Rey. Chinchorro became a pirate haven as a result of the battle.
