The Battle of Mount Gilboa was an engagement that took place between the Philistines and Israelites on the Plains of Esdraelon in 1100 BC, which resulted in a crushing Israelite defeat that left King Saul and most of his army dead.

The Philistine people of Crete invaded Israel, so King Saul retreated to the peak of Mount Gilboa with a force of 10,000 troops, facing 15,000 Philistines. The Philistines encircled the mountaintop and attacked, with Saul's sons being slain along with several soldiers. Saul committed suicide by chest-stabbing as his army fell apart.
