The Battle of Navassa (April 1717) occurred when the crew of the pirate ship Jackdaw, led by Edward Kenway, assaulted the British naval fort of Navassa in the Caribbean Sea. Navassa was situated on a rocky crag between Jamaica and Haiti, and it proved to be a challenge for the pirates. The pirates managed to destroy the fort's intermediate outer defenses before launching a land assault on the British garrison, and the pirates succeeded in killing the fort's three officers before Kenway entered the war room and killed the fort's commander, Jonathan Wearn. Navassa became a pirate stronghold, serving as one until the end of the Golden Age of Piracy.
