Billy Ready
William "Billy" Ready (1941-7 November 2016) was an Irish Army soldier from County Kildare, Ireland. In 1961, Sergeant Ready, serving with Company A, 35th Battalion, ONUC under Commandant Pat Quinlan, fought against the Katanga Gendarmerie and several European mercenaries during the Siege of Jadotville, and he had the distinction of being the first Irish soldier to be injured in combat on foreign soil, as he was shot during the battle. He returned to Mullingar, Kildare after the war, and he died in 2016.
