Cayuga

The Cayuga are one of the five original constituents of the Iroquois confederacy of New York. The Cayuga homeland is along Cayuga Lake, bordering the Onondaga to the east and the Seneca to the west. During the American Revolutionary War, the Cayuga mostly sided with the British, and their homeland was devastated by the Continental Army during the 1779 Sullivan Expedition. After the expedition, many of the Cayuga moved to western Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and eastern Ohio. By 1831, most of the Cayuga east of the Ohio River, encouraged by bigotry, moved to the Indian Territory in what is now Oklahoma.
