Chiapas is a state in southern Mexico, with Tuxtla Gutierrez serving as its capital. The state borders Oaxaca to the west, Veracruz to the northwest, Tabasco to the north, and Guatemala to the east. The state has a humid, tropical climate, with its rainforest being destroyed as the result of the growth of agriculture in the region. In 2015, Chiapas had a population of 5,217,908 people.
