Childeric III of Francia
Childeric III of Francia (717-755) was the King of Francia from 743 to 751, succeeding Theuderic IV of Francia (with Charles Martel as acting king) and preceding Pepin the Short.

Biography

Childeric was the son of Chilperic II of Francia, and in 743 Childeric became king after two years of anarchy following the death of Frankish regent Charles Martel. He was influenced by Charles Martel's sons, and Mayor of the Palace Pepin the Short resolved to take the throne for himself after his brother Carloman retired to a monastery in 747. In 751, Pope Zachary ousted Childeric from power and had him tonsured, ending the Merovingians as Pepin seized power. He died in 755.
