Chris Feistl

Chris Feistl was a DEA agent. In 1994, he dug up information on the Cali Cartel's financial networks, discovering that five or six companies were owned by Cali or its shell companies. He tracked down Swiss francs from Liechtenstein and bearer bonds from Luxembourg, and he presented the report to Javier Pena, hoping to be assigned to Cali, Colombia. However, Pena informed Feistl that the DEA was not going after the cartel, and that no agents were to be deployed to Cali. After a gas leak in Yumbo killed three people and injured hundreds, Pena met with a Colombian journalist who revealed that Cali may have been involved, and he decided to send Feistl and Daniel Van Ness to Cali to assist the police in taking down the cartel. Feistl and Van Ness played an important role on the ground, as they convinced Jorge Salcedo to turn states against the Cali Cartel and work with them as a witness. They would ultimately be the ones to arrest Miguel Rodriguez Orejuela at his mansion in 1995, and they succeeded in leading the raids that dismantled the cartel.
