The Communist Refoundation Party (PRC) was a communist political party in Italy that was founded on 12 December 1991. When the Italian Communist Party decided to renounce its communist views and join the Democratic Party of the Left, dissidents led by Armando Cossutta, Sergio Garavini, Nichi Vendola, and a few others founded their own communist party. The party opposed the abandonment of communism and favored Marxism, but many of its leaders left in 1996 when the party supported the centrist presidential administratiion against a recall attempt; the Movement of Communist Unitarians and Party of Italian Communists split from the main group. Today, the party is very minor, having one MEP.
