Connecticut is one of the fifty states of the United States, the southernmost state in the New England region of the northern East Coast. With its capital at Hartford, its largest capital is Bridgeport, which is an industrial center of New England. The state was founded in 1635 by John Winthrop, who led settlers from Massachusetts to colonize Connecticut. In 2015, the state had a population of 3,590,886, with 77.6% being whites, 10.1% African-Americans, .3% Native Americans, 3.8% Asians, 2.6% multiracial, and 5.6% other. 37% are Protestant, 33% are Catholic, 3% Jewish, 1% Muslim, 1% Hindu, 1% Buddhist, 23% non-religious, and 2% other religions.
