The War in Darfur (28 February 2003-), also known as the Land Cruiser War, was fought between the Sudan Liberation Movement/Army and the Justice and Equality Movement guerrilla organizations in the Darfur region and the centarl Sudanese government in the aftermath of the Second Sudanese Civil War. The Sudanese government, which was run by Afro-Arabs, oppressed the native Africans of the Darfur region, leading to conflict between the native tribes and the Arabs. The Sudanese military and police fought against the rebels, as did the Janjaweed, a horseback militia consisting of Arabized indigenous Africans who carried out several atrocities against the native Africans. In 2010, the JEM and Sudanese government agreed to a ceasefire, but continued Sudanese air raids on rebel forces led to a breakdown of negotiations and the resumption of hostilities. In August 2019, following the Sudanese Revolution, the government and civilian representatives agreed to start a peace process, and, on 31 August 2020, the government and several rebel factions from the SRF agreed to make peace.
