The Democratic Republican Party was a conservative and authoritarian political party that existed in South Korea from 1963 to 1980. The dictator Park Chung-hee was a leader of the Democratic Republican Party, and he advocated corporate statism, anti-communism, and Korean nationalism, crushing political opposition and ruling as a ruthless dictator. From October 1972 to 1980, South Korea was a one-party state, with Park being able to appoint one-third of the members of the National Assembly. The party was dissolved after Park's assassination and the 1980 coup d'etat, and the Saenuri party is the DRP's modern heir.
