Norimasa Yamanouchi, also known as Norimasa Uesugi.
Norimasa Yamanouchi (1523-13 April 1579), better known as Norimasa Uesugi, was the daimyo of the Yamanouchi Uesugi branch of the Uesugi clan, and the adoptive father of Kenshin Uesugi.
Biography[]
A descendant of the Yamanouchi branch of the Uesugi clan, Norimasa Yamanouchi adopted Kagetora Nagao as his son, and he renamed himself as "Kenshin Uesugi". In 1545 Norimasa and his relative Tomosada Ogigayatsu laid siege to Kawagoe Castle in Sagami Province, held by the Hojo clan, but the siege failed due to the tactical flair of Ujiyasu Hojo and Tomosada was killed. Norimasa's power lessened and in 1561 his adoptive son attempted to make him the Governor of Kanto by capturing Odawara from the Hojo. The Kanto Campaign of 1561 was resisted fiercely by the Hojo and Takeda clans, and Kenshin decided to withdraw, and Norimasa's campaigns' successes waned from that point.
