Royal Marines

The Royal Marines is the British Royal Navy's amphibious light infantry force, founded in 1664 as the "Duke of York and Albany's Maritime Regiment of Foot" and in 1755 in its current form. The marines notably attacked Bellisle in 1761 during the Seven Years' War, fought at the Battle of Bunker Hill in 1775 during the American Revolutionary War, participated in every notable naval battle of the Napoleonic Wars, took part in the Crimean War and the wars with China, fought in World War I, invaded Russia during the Russian Revolution, took part in several World War II operations, and fought in the Falklands War. Recently, the Marines have been sent overseas as expeditionary forces, being deployed to Kuwait, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Sierra Leone, Iraq, and Afghanistan. In 2017, there were 7,760 active marines and 750 reservists.
