Yoshiaki Kato

Yoshiaki Kato (1563-7 October 1631) was a general of the Toyotomi, one of the Seven Spears of Shizugatake. He fought at the Battle of Shizugatake in 1583 with great valor, thus gaining his title. During the Japanese invasions of Korea, Yoshiaki Kato commanded the Toyotomi navies that fought Yi sun-Sin's Choson navy such as in the 1592 Battle of Hansando and the 1597 Battle of Myeongnyang. After the death of Hideyoshi and withdrawal from the Korean Campaign, he took part in the rescue of Mitsunari and after 1598's first succession war, he fought with Ieyasu Tokugawa against Mitsunari at the Battle of Sekigahara. His lands in Aizu were doubled to 200,000 koku, and he led the Aizu Domain of northern Japan.
