Francois-Marie de Broglie

Francois-Marie de Broglie (11 January 1671-22 May 1745) was a Marshal of France during the War of the Austrian Succession and the War of the Polish Succession.

Biography[]

Francois-Marie de Broglie was born in Paris, France in 1671, the son of Victor-Maurice de Broglie. He became a cavalry colonel at the age of 23 and distinguished himself during the War of the Spanish Succession, and he became Ambassador to England in 1724. During the War of the Polish Succession, de Broglie was appointed a Marshal of France, fighting at Parma and the Battle of Guastalla. He later served as governor-general of Alsace and commanded the French army in Germany during the early years of the War of the Austrian Succession before being replaced in 1743 and dying in 1745.
