Frisia is a coastal region along the southeastern corner of the North Sea, located mostly in the Netherlands and in parts of Germany. West Frisia, or Friesland, is located in the Netherlands; East Frisia, or Lower Saxony, is located in northwestern Germany; and North Frisia, or Schleswig-Holstein, is located in northern Germany (once a part of Denmark). By the 21st century, the region of Frisia had a population of 2,655,391 people. Frisia is home to the Frisians, a Germanic ethnic group whose language is related to English and Scottish, and it was once the home of the Frisian Kingdom.
