Gabriele Nasci (1887-1947) was an Italian general who commanded the Royal Italian Army's Alpine corps during the Greco-Italian War and World War II.
Biography[]
Gabriele Nasci was born in 1887 in Italy, and he served in World War I before joining an Alpine regiment in 1926. During the Greco-Italian War, he commanded the Italian XXVI Corps, which would suffer heavy losses at the hands of the Greek Army during the fighting in northern Greece and in Albania. In July 1942, he was given command of the Alpine Corps of the Italian Army in Russia during World War II, and his corps was mauled during the Battle of Stalingrad. In April 1943, his corps returned to Italy after enduring heavy losses at the hands of the Soviet Red Army, and he was arrested by Nazi Germany after the Italian armistice with the Allies. He died in 1947 at the age of 60.
