Gomez de Buendia

Gomez de Buendia was a captain in the Spanish Navy who served as the commander of the schooner Santa Rosalia during the Golden Age of Piracy. In January 1718, as a part of their First Bahamas expedition, the pirate Edward Kenway and the crew of his ship, the Jackdaw, incapacitated Santa Rosalia before boarding it and seizing it. Rather than be chased to Florida by pirate hunters, Kenway decided to lower his wanted level by setting Buendia and the Spanish prisoners free in exchange for the Spanish government backing down.
