HMAS Perth (D29) was a Royal Australian Navy light cruiser that was laid down on 26 June 1933 at the Portsmouth Naval Dockyard in England and commissioned with the British Royal Navy in 1936. In 1939, she was sold to Australia, and she served in the Mediterranean early in World War II, fighting at the Battle of Greece, the Battle of Crete, and the Syria-Lebanon campaign before returning to Australian waters in late 1941. In February 1942, she survived the Allied defeat at the Battle of the Java Sea, only to be torpedoed and sunk by the Imperial Japanese Navy at the Battle of Sunda Strait on 1 March 1942.
