Ali Razmara

Haj Ali Razmara (1901-7 March 1951) was the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Iran from 1950 to 1951, succeeding Ali Mansur and preceding Hossein Ala.

Biography[]

Haj Ali Razmara was born in Tehran in the Kingdom of Iran, and studied at the Saint-Cyr Military Academy in Paris, France. In 1950 he was appointed as the Prime Minister of Iran by Shah Mohammed Reza Pahlavi and trimmed government payrolls, bringing government to the people. He set up a council to deal with health, educational, and agricultural programs, an unheard-of move that made him popular among the people.

Navvab Safavi of Fadayan e-Islam ordered the Islamic fundamentalist Khalil Thamassebi to assassinate Razmara because the Iranian goverment did not implement sharia law. While Razmara was at a memorial service in a mosque, he was shot thrice in the chest by Thamassebi. Thamassebi was arrested and later pardoned in 1952, but executed in 1955.
