Harusame
The Harusame was an Imperial Japanese Navy destroyer that was built in 1935 at the Maizuru Naval Arsenal and commissioned in 1937. The ship assisted in the Japanese conquests of 1941-1942 before taking part in the Solomon Islands campaign, participating in nine "Tokyo Express" runs to Guadalcanal as an escort. On 24 January 1943, she was torpedoed by a US Navy submarine and had to be beached to prevent her sinking, and she was returned to Truk for emergency repairs. On 8 June 1944, while evacuating troops from Biak, she was sunk by US Air Force B-25 bombers off New Guinea, killing Captain Mashashichi Shirahama and 73 other crew members.
