Heer

The Heer was the land forces component of Nazi Germany's Wehrmacht armed forces, founded in 1935. The Heer reached 36 divisions shortly after it was formed in 1935 in violation of the Treaty of Versailles, and the Heer was bolstered by the addition of five divisions from Austria to the army after the 1938 Anschluss and the mobilization during World War II. The Heer had a strength of over 13,000,000 troops during the war, with 6,550,000 serving in 1943. The army's motorized infantry units were responsible for the blitzkrieg victories enjoyed by Germany from 1939 to 1941, but the Heer would later be defeated due to supply problems. The Heer was managed by the OKH high command, which was subordinated to the OKW command.
