Hollywood is a neighborhood of Los Angeles, California. It was a small community in 1870 and was incorporated as a municipality in 1903, being consolidated with Los Angeles in 1910. Soon thereafter, a prominent film industry emerged, eventually becoming the most recognizable film industry in the world. In 1923, the famous "Hollywood Sign" was erected in the Hollywood Hills. The neighborhood went into decline during the 1980s, but it was gentrified due to revitalization by private enterprise and public planners.
