Honda Takashige

Honda Takashige (died 1183) was the daimyo of the Honda clan during the Genpei War. He was aligned with the Fujiwara.

Biography[]

Takashige was born in Mikawa Province to the Honda clan, who had descended from Fujiwara Kanemichi. He became the daimyo of the Honda in 1175, inheriting a clan with an an ambitious temperament, questionable integrity, moderate strength, and moderate wealth. Takashige fought the Kamakura Minamoto from 1178 well into the 1180s, as he was aligned with the Fujiwara. In 1181 he rejected the peace overture of indefinite military access, 328 koku, and Minamoto Chikamoto as a hostage, and war continued. Defeated by Hemi Mitsunao, he proceeded to end the Toki clan by capturing Inokuchi, but he was besieged by Mitsunao in early 1183 and killed in the battle.
