Khosrau I

Khosrau I (505-579), also known as Khosrow or Chosroes, was Emperor of the Sassanid Empire from 531 to 579, succeeding Kavadh I and preceding Hormizd IV.

Biography[]

Khosrau was born in 505, the son of Kavadh I. He succeeded his father as Shahanshah of the Sassanid Empire on his death in 531, and art and science flourished in the golden age of Persia under his rule. Khosrau fought against Justinian and the Byzantine Empire, and he fought over Colchis during the Lazic War, and the Iberian War allowed for Khosrau to retain control over the Kingdom of Iberia. In addition, chess was introduced to Persia from India under his reign, and he increased the welfare and revenues of the empire while having a strong and well-paid army. He died in 579.
