The Liberal Party was a national liberal political party in Greece that was active from 1910 to 1961. The party was founded by Eleftherios Venizelos, and it dominated Greek politics for a considerable number of years until its decline after the end of World War II. The party represented the centrist elements of Greek society, and it was supported by the middle class and by inhabitants of the new lands acquired by Greece after the Balkan Wars and World War I. The party was increasingly associated with anti-monarchism (an ideology championed by its People's Party of Greece rivals), and, from 1924 to 1935, it led the short-lived Second Hellenic Republic. During the 1950s, the party lost much of its support, and it merged into the Center Union in 1961.
