Lusitani

The Lusitani were a native Iberian tribe which inhabited what is now Portugal. The Lusitani lived in Iberia long before Carthage and the Roman Republic disturbed the region, and they were a confederation of smaller tribes which worked together for defensive purposes and mutual gain. The Lusitani were secluded in the west, and they were known to be adept at guerrilla warfare. From 155 to 139 BC, Lusitania was pacified by the Romans, and the Lusitani were eventually Romanized, leading to the evolution of a local Latin-based language, Portuguese.
