Salam Jassem Hussein al-Obeidi was an officer in Iraq's Golden Division special forces during the Iraqi Civil War.

Salam Jassem Hussein was born in Iraq to a Shia Muslim family, and he joined the Golden Division special forces during the Iraqi Civil War. Salam was married and had children, and his home life was complicated due to his service in the Iraqi Army away from his family. In 2016, he took part in efforts to hunt down Islamic State collaborators and to gather intelligence on the group while taking part in the Anbar Governorate offensives, and a Vice News documentary released on 7 June 2016 showed him communicating with tribal elders and average villagers to locate Islamic State collaborators and send them to Baghdad for interrogation.
