Italy in 1000

The March of Tuscany was a frontier march of the Kingdom of Italy and state of the Holy Roman Empire that existed from 812 to 1197, with Lucca serving as its capital until 1057, Florence until 1116, and San Miniato until 1197. In 1115, the Florentines rebelled against the rulers of Tuscany to form an independent commune, the Republic of Florence, and the Republic of Pisa also rebelled and gained its independence. In 1197, Tuscany was divided into Florence, Lucca, and Pisa.
