Mike Dempsey
Michael P. "Mike" Dempsey was the US Director of National Intelligence from 20 January to 16 March 2017, succeeding Jim Clapper and preceding Dan Coats.


Michael P. Dempsey was an alumnus of Siena College, the State University of New York, and Johns Hopkins University, and he joined the CIA in 1990 after four years as an artillery officer in the US 101st Airborne Division. He served as Deputy Director of the Weapons Intelligence, Nonproliferation, and Arms Control Center (WINPAC), Deputy Associate Director for Military Affairs, Deputy CIA Representative to the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and Director of Western Hemisphere Affairs at the National Security Council. From 20 January to 16 March 2017, he served as acting Director of National Intelligence, and Dan Coats was confirmed as the new director in March.
