Monarchism

Monarchism is a right-wing political ideology that advocates the creation of a monarch or the implementation of monarchical rule. Historically, monarchists were mostly reactionary or conservative politicians who believed that a single, apolitical ruler could lead a country to greatness by virtue of his/her power and leadership, and monarchists were divided between absolutists and supporters of a constitutional monarchy. During the 19th century, most monarchists were either reactionary nostalgists or conservatives who sought to maintain a state of monarchy, and they were rivals with the republican movements, which were predominantly liberal. Monarchism declined during the 20th century as the monarchies of the world fell, but there are still powerful monarchies in the Arab World and parts of Asia.
