Nicolas Berchtold
Nicolas Berchtold (1921-5 June 1944) was a German Wehrmacht soldier during World War II. On the night of 5 June 1944, Berchtold and Ingolf Hattendorf sat in a machine-gun bunker in Sainte-Mere-Eglise, France and discussed President Franklin D. Roosevelt and the war, and they were ambushed and killed by US 506th Infantry Regiment private Martin. They were the first German losses at the Battle of Sainte-Mere-Eglise.
