The Popular Movement of the Revolution (MPR) was a fascist and authoritarian political party in Zaire that existed from 1967 to 1997. Founded by Mobutu Sese Seko, the MPR believed in nationalism, revolution, and Authenticité, meaning that it rejected capitalism, communism, European influences, and imperialism. The party affiliated itself with the "Third Position", claiming that it was neither left nor right (nor even center), and it was the only legal party in the country until 1990. Mobutu allowed for a three-party state to be created in 1990, and the party was overthrown by Laurent-Desire Kabila in 1997 during the First Congo War. The party, united only by its support for Mobutu, dissolved after his ouster.
