The Progressive Party of Working People (AKEL) is a communist political party in Cyprus, founded on 15 August 1926 as the Communist Party of Cyprus. The party believed in a united Cyprus with a federalist structure, supporting rapprochement with the Turks of Northern Cyprus. The party also held traditional Marxist-Leninist views such as support for nationalization and welfare benefits, and the party held 20/56 House of Representatives seats at its height in 2001.
